6.5 Years And Half A Million Hits Later…

It’s important to mark your milestones. It’s been 6.5 years since I began this blog. I’ve written over 570 articles and so far the site has had over half a million hits.

You may have had much more than I, or you may just be starting out and have much less. No matter where you’re at, even if you don’t get many hits, or if your blog exploded after the first post, sit back and enjoy the precious moments.

I still remember the first time I got a comment on my blog. To this day, the second article I ever wrote is still my 3rd most hit article from Google.

I remember when I wrote my first post that got over 30 comments. I remember starting a lot of controversy and losing a few friends over some of the articles I’ve written. (Those were the days!) 😆

I remember when I was still running WordPress 1.5 when it was outdated and my blog was severely hacked. I lost all my hits and almost had to start over.

You’d be hard pushed to find a personal development blog that’s been running longer than this one. (I only know of one).

I’ve seen so many bloggers come and go over the years. I’m not sure if they discovered that blogging was not their passion, or whether they were just disheartened from the early results.

The key point is, wherever you’re at, know that you’ve done an amazing thing. Even if your words have reached only a handful of people, in my opinion, it’s been worth it.

I like to think of my blog as a success story. Even if these words have only touched 1% of the half a million hits, then to me it’s been a resounding success.

I fully intend to still be around when I hit the 10 year mark and certainly intend to reach the 1000 article mark and it isn’t just for the sake of reaching that number. It’s because that I live each day and learn something new and this vehicle allows me to easily share those learnings.

If blogging is new to you and you’d like to begin one, don’t just do it for the fame. Do it because you genuinely feel like you have something to contribute. Do it because you truly you want to provide something valuable to others.

Find a way of doing whatever you do from your heart. Don’t write about subjects that don’t resonate with you. Even if it’s obscure, if it doesn’t follow the status-quo, If it goes against what all the successful bloggers suggest, if you think it’s worthwhile, just go ahead and begin.

Don’t expect success automatically. Don’t just assume that because you have a great idea it will be become popular from the offset. Not a single blogger I know had that kind of experience.

For every single one, they worked hard, narrowed their focus, practised, experimented and built their brand over time.

There have been months where I’ve written 30+ articles and other times where I’ve written as little as 2. I don’t think there’s been a single occasion when I’ve wanted to quit blogging though.

I was hooked from the offset.

There were times when I felt like my well was dry, that I had nothing to write about. Usually those periods passed quickly. Over the last 2 weeks I almost haven’t been able to stop writing and I have about 30 titles in draft that are awaiting completion.

Don’t give up! Keep going because you never know where you will be a year from now.

Here’s to another 6.5 years and 500+ articles! 😉

  1. What can I say?! Can’t believe it’s been 6.5 years; Amazing! I can only imagine how many people you have helped directly or indirectly through your passionate writing. You’re an inspiration to us all. Keep it going bro cos you’ve only scratched the surface of that universe inside of you. I can already see you conducting seminars in large stadiums, lectures at universities and maybe even a TV show on the scale of Oprah!…Success on this scale is only a matter of time. : )

Congratulations on such an amazing milestone! Wow!
I loved reading what you remembered – the hacking (that happened to me, too), the comments (it’s always so nice to receive them – no matter how long we’ve been blogging), the writing, and the passion that never leaves. If we are doing it for the love of it, it will be felt throughout. And you are doing exactly that!

Hey Jodi, thank you so much for your lovely message. Another thing I didn’t mention was that, even now, It’s still just as awesome to meet new bloggers and exchange comments. It builds strong communities and you also make new friends too. Thank you so much for sharing this milestone with me. Looking forward to speaking more in the future. 🙂
