Video – How To Find The Blessing In Even The Worst Of Situations

While I was in india, although I was busy running around a lot of the time, I found myself with periods of time where I had not much else to do. I didn’t have the usual internet access. I couldn’t blog; I couldn’t speak casually on the phone to my friends; I didn’t feel like watching much TV and even though I was reading and writing there was only so much I could do before I would eventually tire of that too.

Even that period, without all the things I’d grown accustomed to, was an interesting challenge in itself. It’s a wierd experience to suddenly drop everything and have none of the usual creature comforts to hand. So I decided to try something different which is why I decided to create this video blog. It wasn’t my intention to go down the route of video blogging but it was basically the only creative outlet I had. With my trusty iPhone, I started recording!

One thing I mention in the video which you’ll hear me talk about the challenge of digging yourself into deep comfort zones. You might be a strict vegan for example, or be an early riser, what happens when your circumstances change beyond your control? That’s why I’m a grateful that I’ve kept a flexible attitude. I’m not a strict organic vegan freak; which came in handy in india as I didn’t see anything labled as organic. I prefer to wake naturally rather than at a set time which combatted the jet lag. All those attitudes came in handy when thrust into a place where I had little control.

Keep a flexible approach to life. On that note, enjoy my video blog! It was just over 11 minutes so I split it into two parts. There is a third bonus video too with a bit of treat for you if you’re a fan of magic! πŸ˜€

  1. Nice vids Amit. Very down to earth.

You make a good point about blessings. I think that considering the evolved civilization we live in as humans, even our worst situations are actually not very bad. Our ancestors 50.000 years ago struggled with the risk of being eaten alive by wild animals.

    All the best,

  2. Amit,
As i wait for the videos to load, maybe i can talk about the points you have raised in your introductory notes.

You have raised a very important point concerning comfort zone. I think that most people’s definition of “comfort zone” is rather shallow. As you have said, by virtue of the labels we attach ourselves (e.g. I am Vegan; I am an early riser; I am a blogger…) we dig ourselves deep into comfort zones and we only know that when we are deprived of such things by way of circumstance.

I am particularly not very comfortable with the whole idea of labeling oneself as a “blogger” and letting ones identity project from there. I think we confuse the “essence” of who we are with the “carriers” or “careers” we are using to express that essence.

Ok, enough of that…Let me see how far this video buffering has gone. I can’t wait to hear your voice πŸ™‚

    Hello Amit,

Glad to see your post. I hope your mom is doing good.
There is something about comfort zone – people don’t think about the odds without being put in one situation. I am glad you found the best option being away from your comfort zone rather than procrastinating and negativity.
Kudos my friend! πŸ™‚ BTW nice videos.

    Bye for now,

In NLP there’s a principle that the person with the most flexibility controls the system, meaning they can respond over react, and change to suit the scenario.

The beauty of video is that you can choose what to point your camera at.

Hey Zengirl, she’s doing ok, she’s not quite out of the woods yet but all we can do is comfort her, be there for her and keep her smiling! Thank you! xx

    Dear Amit,

I am so sorry to hear that your mum has been so ill. And I am deeply touched that you went to be with her and help her. It sounds like you are having quite an adventure. Maybe not the kind that you would “choose”, but certainly one that you have embraced with great grace, and open heart and mind. That is SO important, because it really isn’t so much about WHAT we do, but how we choose to respond to what is happening.

There is SO much to gained when we can approach life in the way you are doing here. Years down the road I suspect that you will look on this time as rich. If you can keep doing what you are and continue to find the adventure, new experiences and insights even within this experience, you will find and connect more fully to Life, no matter where you are or what is happening.

I really understand the feeling being cut off from all modern conveniences. It was like that for me many years ago when I went into the wild. It really can slow you down (if you let it), and shift your perspective on Life. I have found that there is Life EVERYWHERE, it’s just a matter of whether we can let it in and take time to see it. I think this is quite a journey you are on. And I believe it is happening for a reason.

You are wonderful in front of the camera, a natural. In fact, I am SOOOOO glad this happened where you had little to do and thought of video blogging. They are so well done, spontaneous and warm, just very human. And it helps us to get to know you in ways that we might not have from your writing. It adds a whole new dimension. I just love it!!!

Thank you so much just for being yourself. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
Continue to fully embrace this journey just as you already are.
In fact, seek it out. You will find Life, Lessons, Insights…and Yourself everywhere.

I am sending you a BIG hug all the way from the New Mexico, USA.
    Robin

    Hey Amit,
Nice vlogs. I agree, that keeping the flexible mind is always a useful tool when faced with much challenge. Great way of describing this and sharing how you are using a positive attitude to get through these times in your life, it’s inspiring for us all. Thank you.

  9. Whoa, loved the card tricks Amit! I’ve always loved card tricks like this. Furthest I’ve gotten is just shuffling and having the cards go whoosh together afterwards. Thanks for sharing these.
