The Importance Of 5-A-Day

A while back I wrote a post about The 5-a-day that nourishes the soul which you can incorporate into your daily life to live a happier, and more fulfilling life.

After practising it for a few months, I’ve realised that I completely hit the nail on the head with that post. I know it probably sounds like I’m blowing my own trumpet 😛 but I have to say that through experiencing it more and more it’s been the main thing that has turned my life around.

Just as a reminder the 5-a-day things were

1. Meditate
2. Smile
3. Laugh
4. Give
5. Appreciate

In my opinion, these 5 things are just as essential as having your 5 fruit and veg everyday. There were days when I didn’t do 1 or 2 of those things and I found myself out of balance. However on the days when I practised all 5, I always ended up having the most superb, spiritual, fun and enjoyable days!

Whether this sounds like absolute crap to you or not, all I can say is give it a try. Read my previous post on the subject to understand each one and try it for yourself to see what the results. Remember that results speak louder than words or actions and I have said on many occasions “The only way to know, is to try for yourself”.

Most importantly, have fun, enjoy life, don’t take yourself too seriously, and laugh like you’ve never laughed before! 😆

    Hi Amit,

    I went back and read your previous post, and I believe you are absolutely on track with the five things. These are most powerful for transforming not only yourself, but seeing everything around you in a different light. It also tends to elicit friendly reactions and give happiness to everyone around you, too.

    There is too much hostility in the world…this is a great list of things to enable one to begin to turn that tide.

    And don’t forget to smile on the phone…the person on the other end can definitely tell the difference! 🙂

    Hi Michelle, thanks for that, infact on your words, I’ve had a bit of a brainstorm, you know those small fun books that you get at the cash desk of a book store? Well I was thinking of turning this idea into one of those books…what do you think?

    Hi Amit,

    I think that is a great idea! It would be right there at the desk where everyone would see it, and a lot of people do buy on “impulse” when they see something interesting as they leave the store, and a small book is a modest financial investment (if you are a first-time author, this is an advantage).

    If you wanted to, you could expand it later into a larger book by writing more about your own experiences, or including other people’s experiences on how practicing the five things has led them toward a better life experience. I think smiling at other people is one of the best things you can do. When you smile at someone, it makes them happy, and then they smile back which makes you happy. Never underestimate the power of a smile. I have often found that the simplest things in life are often the most powerful. The thing is, too, when you are emotionally and spiritually healthy, your body will follow along and be more healthy, too.

    May I have your permission to republish your original “5 a day!” post on my “Be well…” blog? I will link the article back to your original post, or to the main page of your blog if you’d rather. (The main page might be better, to encourage people to read the other entries…after all, they’ve already read the reprinted one!)

    How true. Simple, yet profound. For me the top two would be “meditate” and “appreciate”. Hey that rhymes! =)

    Both create a positive neurological feedback loop that produces a surge of pleasurable brain chemicals like serotonin and endorphins. Bingo! Instant well-being and contentment!
