When you enjoy the process of doing something, you are free from outcome. By that I mean that you are not emotionally attached to a desired future scenario. You want something, but don’t need it in order to feel good.
Two quick examples:
1. You talk to another person for the purpose of getting validation – an outcome. This shines through and you come off as needy.
2. You talk to another person and you are actually having fun. The fun will transfer to the other person.
You can guess which one of these is more likely to get you any desired result you might have.
There is a paradox here. By focusing on the result, you deviate from the process leading to the desired outcome. Become process-oriented instead of outcome-dependent and not only will you be able to feel better and be more relaxed, but you will manifest the outcomes you want.
Also ask yourself why you desire what you desire.
The Process Is Now
The process – the doing – is in the now. A desired future outcome is nothing else than a Picture, in the now. The future is an illusion. Learn to see it for what it is: a state of being you create in the now. You can not escape this moment. So use your choice, your unlimited choice, and choose to appreciate what is happening now.
Whether you are going to war Arjuna style, preparing for a speech or trying to meet new people, being free from outcome is a prerequisite.
Back to the example of talking to another person, this time a beautiful stranger that you would like to meet.
“How will she react to me?”
“Will he like me?”
“Will I get my precious validation?”
If these are your thoughts around the situation, you will most likely fail. If you let the outcome determine whether or not you feel good or bad, you give up your power. You are not fully present. However, if you enjoy the process of talking to and connecting with this person, you can not fail. You will have a good time, independent of the outcome. You have an awesome conversation and connect deeply? Great! The stranger responds by insulting you? Wow! Don’t let that become your problem. Your reaction to that determines how you feel. It is your choice, so accept what is and make the best of it.
You are a free, creative being! Use every tool you access to make the process as enjoyable as possible.
Worrying vs Daydreaming
When you worry and when you daydream, you basically do the same thing. You use your imagination to create states of being that feel either good or bad, resonant or not resonant, in alignment or not in alignment.
When worrying about a possible outcome, you create a state of being – in the now – that does not feel good. You fear the worst possible scenarios and choose to tap into them in that moment, even though they will probably never manifest. Utilize the energy you spend worrying, for daydreaming instead. Then you create a state of being that feels amazing! This is much more expanding and empowering than worrying.
If you desire something and think in the way of “I really want that car! I don’t have it yet, but I want it, so bad!” you are creating a separation between you and your desired outcome. Embody the feeling of already having what you desire, and you will eliminate the separation.
Why is the car relevant for you?
And remember: Dream big!
Love, Without Expecting Anything in Return
Love unconditionally. Do favors without expecting anything in return. Smile to the world. Love radially, from every part of your being, directed everywhere, and nowhere in particular. Love. It’s a verb. Do it. When you love every moment, you are free from fear, free from outcome – loved beyond measure, always.
In such a state of being it is impossible to be needy. And thus impossible to feel dependent on an outcome. You will not have any ulterior motives, and believe me, people can tell! So remember to love. You are love. Loving to love. Loving itself.
Your Timeless State of Being
Your entire experience in this moment, consisting of memories, dreams for the future, associations and so on, is only in this moment. Every moment (every Planck length of time) you choose your entire state of being, including your seeming past and future. I am going to share with you a way to view this moment, that rises above the illusion of time.
Imagine this moment as a 3D-image of your experience. A perfectly still 3D-model of the entire universe. Imagine that every moment lasts the shortest possible amount of time (Planck time). Every moment there is a separate and changeless image. Put together these 3D-image slices to a timeline showing the past and future, as well as this exact moment. Our point of view glides seamlessly from image to image, creating the illusion of linear time. OK.
If you now imagine several different futures, you will notice that you can not do that separate from this moment. Not without changing this moment as well. You jumped to a different timeline! You see your future and your past, now. In fact, you choose your future and your past in this timeless moment. This means that nothing is set in stone.
Viewing your state of being, and time, in this way can give you a new perspective, and a better understanding of how – and more importantly why – you really create, or choose, the outcome of a situation, in this moment. This can seem pretty overwhelming and radical at first, at least it was for me, but let it sink in a bit. Let the idea go a few rounds in your head and see if it becomes clearer and more integrated after a while. Also, feel free to ask any question you want in the comment section!
Take This Home
There are a lot of resources out there on freedom from outcome. In fact, I would say it is a deep truth and it is mentioned in many resources, ranging from ancient texts such as the Bhagavad Gita to the people teaching the social dynamics of meeting the opposite sex. Take your time and find several different takes and perspectives on these subjects. Let your mind mature to these new points of view, before you integrate them.
Whenever you find yourself worrying about or clinging to an outcome, remember the process, remember why you are doing what you are doing. Have fun, now. Do not wait for a certain situation or depend upon an outcome to feel good. Create from love, being love – do it now! There is no other time than now, forever.
