Myth Busting The Notion Of Busyness
I caught myself in the act of doing a very terrible thing. It was so terrible I’m almost ashamed to admit it.
I said to someone I was ‘too busy’! Woah hold the phone; Amit, say it aint so!?!
Yep, and I’m hanging my head in shame.
It gets worse. I was going around telling people just how busy I was with a sense of pride. It’s as if how busy I was warranted showing off about it.
Busyness is an illusion.
It’s a complete fabrication concocted in the mind when in truth it shields a secret; it’s used when we don’t want to do something or see people we play a low value on. Eventually it turns into a regular excuse; like some kind of get-out clause.
In laymen’s terms, it’s a bit fat, poopy, zinger of a fib!
You will always respond with an answer of too busy to the things you don’t hold in high esteem.
“Being busy doesn’t make you special. Everyone is busy. It’s those that make time who are the most unique and special.â€
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BEING ‘TOO BUSY’! You can be busy, but never ever are you too busy.
We all get busy from time to time. We all have many responsibilities or things that require our time and attention. That is a given. However, you’d be surprised at how many people say they’re too busy whilst they have a chocolate bar in their hand, are sitting on the couch and watching I’m a celebrity get me out of here.
We always make the time for the things that are important to us.
People make the excuse: “I’m too busy to meditate”. That’s a lie! You’ve chosen not to make the time to meditate. You’ve chosen not to make it priority. You not recognised the moments where you could meditate, such as when you’re on a train or waiting in a queue.
It’s not that you don’t have the time to spend with your friends and family because you’re too busy. It’s because you haven’t paid enough attention to managing your time better.
You know what happens when you tell people you’re not interested in something. Surprise surprise, they stop asking you! If you keep making the busy excuse, they’ll continue to ask you because they assume you are interested and just don’t have the time right now.
You’ve not understood how to become more efficient with your time and eliminate the crap you no longer want. It’s quite an easy mistake to make and something just as easy to rectify.
It is literally about time management. Have you ever noticed that when you’re in a huff and you try to complete tasks, not only do they seem to take longer, but more piles up on your plate.
If you can (and excuse the phrase) learn to chill the f#@k out, you will find that you will not only complete things faster, but also find that you have much more free time.
Take some time out of your busy schedule to examine and dissect your day. Have a good look at where you time really goes.
Are you spending more time thinking about all the things you need to do and not actually doing it? If so, then you’ve discovered the main thing that wastes the precious time that you have.
Take action, without over thinking your task list, and you’ll find you will get so much more done. You’ll shave the valuable time off just the thinking part, less time on the actual doing part, and therefore save yourself so much time you’ll get to the point where you’ll realise you actually have more time than you ever imagined.
You’ll be looking for things to do rather than fretting over what is on your list and getting in a huff about it all.
Next time you catch yourself saying you’re too busy it’s time for a reality check. It’s time for you to understand that you don’t need to be in competition with others about how busy you are. That really don’t make you special or give you any kind of get-out clause.
You know what happens when you tell people you’re not interested in something. Surprise surprise, they stop asking you! If you keep making the busy excuse, they’ll continue to ask you because they assume you are interested and just don’t have the time right now.

It only takes a few minutes to do this and makes a world of difference. Just being mindful and doing it daily is important. I recommend taking a few minutes a day to clarify your intentions and priorities. Later go back and look over how you spent the day. After a week your productivity will improve and stress will go down, guaranteed!

I love that Dan, taking a few minitues to clarify ones priorities and intentions, something I definitely should’ve included in this article too so thank you for the addition. Have an awesome day 🙂
Excellent article, some real food for thought here 🙂
I know a lot of people who use their so-called busyness as a weapon of mass condecension, i.e. they think they’re more hard-working than us just coz they’re “always so busy” with something or the other…. This in fact shows a serious lack of time management and organisation coz if someone’s that “busy” running around, attempting to complete tasks or errands before the sun goes down, then they’re not busy – they’re just a severely disorganised slave.
Wot do u think, Amit? 🙂 xx
I whole heartedly agree.
The notion of being busy is just a make believe fantasy to allow people a reason to do the things they don’t place a high value on.
Rather than just being honest with themselves and other people they use it as an excuse to elevate their status.
🙂
Beautiful content. Thank you for keeping the conversation going. The present is created by you. Release your fears, and only love will remain. Manifest your dreams for a better future. Relieve stress, anxiety, fear…. dissolve the self into the infinite.
thank you so much Sara for the sweet sentiment! 🙂
What a great topic and article! I think we in the Western world, particularly in the US, associate accomplishment with busyness. This is an absurd measure. Focus and doing the right things at the right times lead to accomplishment – not simply “doing something.”
Chris
Hi Chris, just picked this one up (although I know you left this message over 3 months ago!)
Well said my friend!
Busyness is really a popular excuse and it always helps to avoid something without consequences. I know it!
Thanks Amit for the post!
And thank you Roman. Always a pleasure! 🙂
