Against The Elements
For the last couple of weeks now I’ve had a surge of energy. I’m not sure of the cause but I’ve felt a huge sense of determination and drive permeate me and as a result I’ve been waking up at 5.30am everyday on the dot! Over the last month or so I have been going to bed with the intention of waking up feeling rejuvenated after having a deep, restful nights sleep. I’m not sure if this has had an impact, but one thing’s for sure, I’m going to make use of this “spinach syndrome” 😛 as much as I can, especially since things have been a bit of a struggle recently due to the treatment I’ve been receiving.
The second my alarm goes off I’ve been getting up and stretching. Then, I get ready to go out for a nice long brisk walk, up any hills I can find to give my body a reasonable work out to get my metabolic rate going. Just before I left the house last Thursday morning, I looked out the window and could see that it was pouring with rain and extremely windy. It almost put me off going out but I was determined not to let the weather determine the course of my day. So I put on my shorts and T-shirt and decided to brave the the stormy weather regardless!
As I left the house, I could feel the rain pelting my legs because the wind was so strong. About 5 mintues into my walk I considered turning back but I knew that if I did I would end up, beating myself up, the entire day. So, I carried on, my arms and legs were freezing, my hands were numb, but I went on and focused on giving thanks for all the wondrous things in my life and my whole experience of life too. I had my Ipod with me and was listening to some of the tracks that really get me going and keep me focused. Some of the tracks I have on my training playlist are:
1) Jackson 5 – Can you feel it
2) James Brown – I feel good
3) Snap – I’ve got the power
These are just a few of the ones that really give me a buzz and that “vibe” of feeling like I’m on cloud 9. They truly are powerful anchors and what I’ve found is that during the day, I’ve been humming or whistling these tunes and whenever I do it fills me with even more energy.
So there I was on this power walk and saying some powerful affirmations out loud whilst also feeling gratitude for the amazing abundance within my life. As I got to the top of the hill I decided to do some press-ups against a wall and once I was done made my way back home. All the while, the wind was howling, and the rain continued to pour. As I was walking back I decided to shift my focus on visualizing my outcomes, the ultimate results for my life. During this time I went into such a deep trance, a deep meditation that I literally forgot about the wind and the rain, so much so that whole body started to feel warm, like I was covered from head to toe and protected by a blanket. While I was in that state my consciousness shifted towards thinking about my spirit, the non physical part of my being. All the while I was barely consciously aware of where I was or what I was doing. My body was on auto pilot! It was only when I got close to my front door that I realised that not only was I almost home, but that I was no longer feeling cold or anything of the sort.
It was almost as if my conscious mind decided to take a break and become unconscious for a while, and my subconscious came to the forefront and was in charge. It goes to show how powerful the unconscious mind can be and when it’s released, little can distract it from it’s purpose.
This is good practice for many situations and so if you’re ever in a situation, where you’re feeling cold, hot, tired, or just not quite with it, start moving around and focus your attention on your outcomes. Focus on them deeply to the point where you’re almost dreaming. Get deeply into that thought and sink into it, once you’re deep you’ll naturally move away from the physical and move towards the spiritual, your consciousness will gravitate more towards the spirit essence of your being.
It’s a fun exercise to do and I love to hear what your experiences of this and if you do something similar.
Pretty powerful stuff there, Amit! I don’t recall any specific occurences, but I have had similar experiences where concentration is so focused and complete that the world around me just disappeared. In fact, it is usually when I am outside and walking, too. Perhaps the phenomenon is somehow related to walking meditation…I mean the intentional kind, as when walking a labyrinth or even just random walking…and this is sort of an unintention but always welcome experience. 🙂
Awwww PH ey?
Well done sweetie, keep it up! Sooooo proud of you.
It never ceases to amaze me how powerful our minds really are! Great post!
Doh! I’m sure I replied your post already once Michelle but I don’t think it saved it. Oh well, I was saying that I agree that walking meditation is incredibly powerful, I do sitting meditation too, but I think whilst walking or during some other simple physical activity always has the greatest impact. 🙂
Absolutely Desiree, imagine what we could do if we practiced daily and harnessed the great power to it’s fullest potential! 😀
Power Hour hunni!
Duh! I should’ve known! 🙂
