Minute Meditations

Use those valuable extra moments during the day for meditation. Some people have the impression that you have sit there for hours and meditate. No! My most powerful meditation experiences have been at times when they are spontaneous and for just a few seconds or minutes.

Today, I was at a Heathrow airport desperately trying to find a parking space, I saw someone getting ready to leave, they were taking their time! Initially I got angry but then I said to myself; “STOP” and for just a few seconds, I had some incredibly powerful meditation, and when the car was gone, I calmly parked my car.

Our days can be filled with short moments where we can make wonderful use of the time! If you’re standing in a queue, stuck in a traffic jam, waiting for a file to download, anything along those lines, make use of those brief periods and turn them into moments of powerful spiritual refreshment.

Outstanding insight, Amit. I’ve always beaten myself up for not spending as much time as I think I should just meditating. I’ve started doing what you talk about more and more, and it really makes a major difference in my days.

Thanks Lyman and you’re so right! We have a habit of beating ourselves up over the smallest things but this way, even just a few small moments during the day can make huge differences! I think in my next post I’ll get people to put up their suggestions for meditations and thoughts for those short moments! 🙂

[…] Everything is repetition! You wake up, brush your teeth, have a shower, go to work or begin your daily routine, you eat, watch t.v., etc and the repetition of life continues. As I said earlier whether you’re consciously aware of it or not your life is repetition. A big part of that is the repetitive thougths that you will have on a day to day basis. So, breaking the cycle of a current set of repetitive thought patterns is not and easy thing to do, but doing so will change your state of being and the way you feel about any given situation or circumstance that occurs. One of the best ways of breaking that repetition is something I posted on earlier called “Minute Meditations.” Minute meditations are ways breaking old thought patterns, into newer, more positive and powerful thoughts at various times during the day when you’re performing a mundane task. So it could be while you’re driving, standing in a queue, cooking brushing your teeth, or at any other time when you choose. Consciously force yourself out of the old pattern and initiate a new pattern and then allow yourself to unconsciously flow into the new pattern. […]
